Former Central Bank of Ireland Governor is the Central Bank's Distinguished Visiting Fellow

Dr. Patrick Honohan, former Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland and member of the governing council of the European Central Bank, is the Central Bank of Barbados’ 4th Distinguished Visiting Fellow. He will be in the island from March 16 to April 6.

During his three-week visit, Honohan, who was instrumental in Ireland’s recovery from its worst financial crisis in a generation, will be the special guest at the 2017 Caribbean Economic Forum on March 30, where the topic will be “What Policy Course for a Small Open Economy in Today’s Global Macroeconomic Environment?” The forum, now in its fourth year, will again be moderated by veteran regional broadcaster, Julian Rogers. It will be broadcast live both locally and regionally and streamed online.

Honohan will also meet with several Ministers of Government as well as officials from the Financial Services Commission, and members of the financial and business sectors He will give two lectures at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.

Honohan, a Non-resident Senior Fellow of the prestigious Peterson Institute for International Economics, joins two other members of that organisation as the Central Bank’s Distinguished Visiting Fellow: the Institute’s founder, Dr. Fred Bergsten, in 2014, and Dr. Simon Johnson in 2016. The 2015 Fellow was Dr. Peter Blair Henry, Dean of New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business.
