Harold Codrington, one of the Central Bank of Barbados’ two Deputy Governors, has retired.
“Harold has given invaluable service to the Bank for more than three decades,” said Central Bank Governor, Dr. DeLisle Worrell. “In the early years, he played an important role in the development of the organization, and more recently, he was a valuable member of the Bank’s management team.”
Public Affairs Officer Novaline Brewster also praised the outgoing Deputy Governor. “Harold has provided me with advice since my very first day at work. He’s been a mentor not only to me, but also to several other young people in the Bank.”
Codrington joined the Central Bank as an economist in 1979. Over the years, he rose up the ranks, having stints as Senior Economist, Deputy Director and Advisor to the Governor before being appointed to the post of Deputy Governor in 2011.
With Codrington now retired, the Bank has announced that Elson Gaskin, Bank Secretary, will act as Deputy Governor.
Gaskin, an attorney at law, has been at the Central Bank for nine years. Prior to joining the organization, he was General Legal Counsel of the Fair Trade Commission. He holds an LLB (Bachelor of Laws), the Legal Education Certificate (LEC), and a Masters in Business Administration in Banking and Law. He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Bankers of Scotland.
Gaskin has acted as Officer in Charge at the Central Bank on several occasions when the Governor and his deputies were out of office.
