“Financial Fraud in Barbados” will be the topic of an online discussion hosted by the Central Bank of Barbados and the Financial Services Commission (FSC). The event takes place on Tuesday, October 12 at 10:00 a.m.
“Financial fraud is an issue that is of concern to all of us. At an individual level, no one wants to fall victim, and at a national level, it can have implications for financial stability,” said Central Bank Governor Cleviston Haynes. “Given the importance of this topic, we have decided to partner with the Financial Intelligence Unit under whose ambit this falls. In addition to their participation, we will also have regulators and representatives of law enforcement on the panel.”
That panel comprises FIU Director Kirk Taitt; Kester Guy, CEO of the Financial Services Commission; Jennifer Clarke-Murrell, Deputy Director, Bank Supervision at the Central Bank of Barbados; and Inspector Sonia Thompson of the Royal Barbados Police Force.
Haynes previewed some of the areas the discussion is expected to cover. “With this forum, we want to examine how pervasive financial fraud is, who is being targeted, and what institutions and individuals can do to protect themselves.”
“Financial Fraud in Barbados” is the final session of the Bank and FSC’s 2021 Domestic Financial Institutions Conference series. Previous sessions have focused on increasing household investment in renewable energy, technology and customer service in the financial sector, and navigating risk in the financial sector.
