Barbadian Creativity Lauded at the Frank Collymore Literary Endowment Awards

Allison Cadogan’s “The Economist” received top honours at the 2015 Frank Collymore Literary Endowment Awards, which was held Saturday, January 9, 2016 in the Grande Salle of the Tom Adams Financial Centre.

Second prize went to Glenville Lovell for his piece “Farewell Kilimanjaro”, while the third prize entry was a short story collection entitled “Water for the End of the World” by Cherie Jones. Ahmad Desai’s short story collection, “Foreign Island” won the Prime Minister’s Award, and Mark Ramsay’s “Half Life of a Moth” received honourable mention.

During 2015, the Frank Collymore Literary Endowment Committee held two “Writers Helping Writers” workshops aimed at helping local writers hone their craft, which may have been at least in part responsible for what the judges consider to be significant improvement in the overall quality of the 71 entries submitted for consideration.
