Bank Contributes $20,000 to Haiti
The Central Bank of Barbados recently donated BDS$20,000 to the Haiti Relief Fund.
Staff contributed approximately $10,000 in an in-house collection effort spearheaded by the Sports and Cultural Club and the Bank donated the remainder.
President of the Sports and Cultural Club, Denis Graham, said the fund-raising drive exceeded his expectations. "I am deeply heartened by the generosity of my colleagues, who contributed handsomely to the collection effort, despite having made similar contributions through other organizations," Graham stated after handing over the cheque to Director General of the Red Cross of Barbados, Edmund Bradshaw.
Bradshaw thanked the Bank and its employees for their donations and said that the funds would be greatly appreciated by the Haitians.
He stated further that funds received locally are transferred to the International Federation of the Red Cross which is working closely with the Haiti Red Cross in providing immediate relief and long term restoration to the people of Haiti. The International Red Cross is the world’s largest volunteer organization and responder to disasters.
A huge earthquake caused widespread damage and destruction in the French-speaking Caribbean nation in mid-January.
