3rd Caribbean Economic Forum

Dr. Simon Johnson, the Central Bank of Barbados' 2016 Distinguished Visiting Fellow capped off his time in Barbados by being the specially invited guest at the 3rd Caribbean Economic Forum on March 22.

During the 90-minute event, which was hosted by veteran regional broadcaster Julian Rogers, Johnson, a former Chief Economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), answered questions on a range of topics, including whether the reforms that had been undertaken in the USA were enough to prevent another major financial crisis; the future of the European Union; and the economic fortunes of Barbados and the Caribbean.

Johnson, who is currently a professor of Entrepreneurship at MIT's Sloane School of Management, also spoke about digital currencies, which he believes will lead to the end of cash, and what their rise will mean for banks and the financial system as a whole.

Innovation and entrepreneurship, growth strategies for small economies and even the 2016 US presidential campaign also emerged as discussion points during the forum.

The forum was broadcast live on radio and television stations across the region and streamed online at the Central Bank of Barbados' website. Watch the full 3rd Caribbean Economic Forum below:
