The Central Bank of Barbados' Caribbean Economic Forum returns on Thursday, March 3 at 8:00 p.m. with a discussion on "Building Resilience Against Climate Change." The event will be broadcast live on CBC TV8 and livestreamed on the Bank's Facebook page and YouTube channel.
"Our region is among the most vulnerable to climate change, and we feel its impacts, both environmental and economic, acutely," said Central Bank Governor Cleviston Haynes. "We therefore felt it important to make it the topic of our first forum for the year."
The discussion, which will be hosted by veteran broadcaster David Ellis, will feature Rueanna Haynes, Director of Climate Analytics Caribbean; Professor Michael Taylor, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of the West Indies, Mona; and Cletus Springer, Chairman Designate of the Caribbean Natural Resources Institute as its panellists.
"We're pleased to be bringing together this group of experts who can help us to explore not only what needs to be done, but also how we can do it. This is truly an issue that affects us all, so we encourage everyone to tune in."
The Caribbean Economic Forum was originally part of the Bank's Distinguished Visiting Fellowship programme, but since the start of the pandemic has shifted into a series of virtual events. Since the transition, the series has included discussions on the future of work, digitising economies, and developing the regional private sector.
