QC Students Learn About Career Paths in Central Banking

Fifth and sixth form economics students from Queen’s College recently attended a mini career showcase at the Central Bank of Barbados.

The event featured presentations from the Bank’s Research and Economic Analysis Department, Bank Supervision and Payments Oversight Department, Corporate Communications Unit, and Human Resources Department.  Each department provided an overview of its functions and outlined the skills required to become an employee of the organisation, while the students listened attentively, gaining valuable insights into the inner workings of the Central Bank and the various career paths available within it.

Following the presentations, the students were given the opportunity to visit booths and engage directly with representatives from the different departments to gain a deeper understanding of their roles. The interactive session allowed students to ask questions and explore specific areas of interest. From queries about academic pathways to inquiries about work-life balance, the Bank’s staff provided thoughtful and candid responses, giving the students much to reflect on as they showed keen interest in the opportunities presented.

The students found the showcase highly engaging and took advantage of the opportunity to seek guidance on their potential career paths. Some even indicated that they were desirous of interning at the Bank in the future and expressed aspirations of being employed there one day.

By the time the event concluded, the students left the Courtney Blackman Grande Salle with a renewed sense of direction and excitement for their futures. The career showcase not only exposed them to the vast opportunities that lie ahead, but also reinforced the idea that with hard work, commitment to their studies, and determination they could achieve their dream of one day being employed at the Central Bank of Barbados.

The showcase presented the opportunity for the Bank to play a vital role in moulding the minds of young, educated individuals, who one day might be employed at the organisation and play their part in helping to manage Barbados’ economy and promote financial stability.
